Sometimes when we're starting our side business, people you worked with might be curious about what you are doing. Over time those conversations will change from a polite interest to a judgement of your work passion.
The shift is subtle but it happens. Understanding how people will respond, will give you the tools to manage uncomfortable situations and judge correctly if leaving your job is better for you or not.
Here are some things to pay attention to in your life as they play out in real time;
- Your employee friends will be happy for you; however, they may also secretly wish they could do something just as challenging and rewarding.
- Your employee friends may be jealous of your financial ability to start a side business.
- Your employee friends will support you & encourage you, but this will eventually change.
- Over time, you'll start seeing your employee friends less & less. (It won't be intentional.)
- A side business takes focus, and when you're focused on building your side business, you will unintentionally exclude other things (like hanging out with your employee friends).
- Eventually, your goals change from making as much money as possible to building something that's sustainable and scalable.
- Once you start making money with your side-business, your employee friends will no longer relate to you the same way they used to.
Takeaway: You need to prepare yourself mentally for the changes in relationships and conversations when you start a side-business.
To help you, I've created a FREE training that I wish someone had given to me when I started my journey building my first side business. Impact My Income is the brain child of conversations like these.
If you know anyone who needs to understand just how profitable they could be with current skills, make sure they attend.
What have you seen in your current relationships that has changed? Share in the comments.
My hope is that this will help you on your journey to maximizing your capabilities and impacting your income for you and your family.
